Abbotskerswell v Whitchurch Second XI

WHITCHURCH Second XI got back to winning ways with a convincing 112 run victory over Abbotskerswell.

Whitchurch were put into bat on a damp track. Andy Alford reveling as an opener put in another sound performance of 34 and was ably supported by Ben Powell (21). It was the partnership of youth and experience, Tom Jackman (31) and Bob Powell (46), that really put the visitors in charge.

Abbots gifted Whitchurch runs by allowing the ball to hit a helmet left on the ground. After 20 overs Whitchurch were comfortable on 86 for two and the next 20 overs saw a further 87 runs for two wickets. A controlled and carefully constructed innings set a total of 215 for the home side.

Abbots never had a chance. They immediately felt the full fury of a fast, accurate spell from Darren Sambells. His four for 27 ensured that Abbots were on the back foot from the start. Neil Tamblin (3-32) and Tim Jackman (2-18) kept up the pressure and the home side finished on 103. Beasant (26) being the only batsman to hold on.

The maximum 20 points puts Whitchurch in pole position as their nearest rivals Bovey Tracey lost heavily to Cornwood.
