THE main final of Tavistock Squash and Racketball Club’s annual John Jameson Trophy was played on Tuesday, June 20 between Will Westlake and Tom Honey.
Will got off to a strong start, winning 13 of the first 15 points before Tom started to get into the game. That start meant Will took the first game 15-8.
Tom improved in the second game and looked to have a commanding lead at 14-9, but with Will changing his tactics to slow things down, he suddenly found himself back in the game and went on to win 16-14.
In the third game Tom started strongly and found more accuracy with his shots. With the extra pressure Will never really go going and Tom took the game 15-3. The fourth game proved very tight with both players starting to tire, but Will managed to keep his head and took the game 15-13 and the match 3-1.
This was an entertaining match for those watching, with both players giving it everything in the very hot and humid conditions.
