THE rain was once again the winner with little cricket being played. Whitchurch firsts traversed the moor through some heavy downpours and arrived at Ashburton to watery sunshine. They got changed, lost the toss and were invited to bat. Just before the 2pm starting time it started to rain and although the covers came on and went off more than once, the heaviness of the showers meant that no play was possible. Whitchurch seconds did manage to start at home to Chagford. Skipper Wallace won the toss for the first time this season and had no hesitation in inserting the visitors. The Whitchurch bowling was much more accurate than last week, with Northey making an early breakthrough with a superb delivery to bowl Stanbury. However, after nine overs and with Chagford on 22-1, another shower proved terminal, with neither side getting any extra bonus points.
