ON Saturday, 11 members of the Tavistock Wheelers took part in the annual fund raising ride for Bowel Cancer South West. This year the route was from Derriford Hospital in Plymouth to Lyme Regis in Dorset.

The Wheelers were a self-supporting unit, riding together and requiring only refuelling to make it to the end.

Special note must go to Rory Miller, who completed the 90+ miles of a hilly route at only 13 years of age (and without a single word of complaint). He was accompanied by a very proud dad.

The Wheelers thanked the organisers, who worked so hard to make the day a success and also to Richard, the proprietor of the Ring of Bells pub at North Bovey, who provided breakfasts and packed lunches

n There are now a large number of young riders who are gaining valuable racing experience in a variety of events in the South West of England. Geoff Whitlow, the Tavistock Wheelers' club chairman, has worked tirelessly to encourage riders to participate in races and to work hard to become competitive.

There have been numerous successes this year which have taken the club, and its growing membership, to new levels.
