FIVE Tavistock Wheelers North Shore Gallery race team members competed in the South West Cyclo-Cross Regional Championships held at Poltaire School in St Austell.

The race featured a strong field, drawing from riders of different cycling disciplines from across the South West. The course, which took in the infamous Brewery Climb steps, leading from the school grounds up and directly through the St Austell brewery, provided a challenge for all riders.

Wheeler Philip Collings was fifth in the senior rankings with Huw Richards and Lee Adams 12th and 14th respectively. Gray Roberts was 13th and Chris Mabey 15th in the veterans’ class.

Mount Kelly school is to host round nine of the South West Cyclo-Cross series on Sunday, November 22.

There will be four races — the under eights at 10.30am, under ten and 12s at 11am, U14s, U16s and novice adult at noon and the final race for all junior, women, senior and veterans at 1.30pm. Events are open and welcoming to all abilities.

All South West events allow competitors to ride either mountain bikes, hybrids or cyclo-cross bikes.

Tom and Eva Brown became the first Tavistock Wheelers youth ‘Go Ride’ scheme cyclo-cross competitors, when both came third in the under 12 male and female categories at a race near Exeter.
