IT was a busy Sunday for the Tavistock Wheelers. The normal club ride was boosted by the sunshine and more than 30 riders assembled in Bedford Square at 8am. They split into three groups and converged on the Foxtor Cafe in Princetown via a variety of routes on a superb day for cycling.
Meanwhile, members of the Tavistock Wheelers-North Shore Gallery Racing Team competed in two different events in diverse parts of the Westcountry.
The members of the Tavistock Wheelers - North Shore Gallery team senior riders took part in the Leedstown Road Race in Cornwall while the younger riders competed in the circuit races in Ilton, Somerset.
Mark Whiffen achieved a creditable fifth place in Cornwall while Jordan Channon finished in eighth place in an experienced field in Somerset.
These early results promise great things for the rest of the season. Finally, Rod Stewart and Chris Beighton competed in a 20 mile time trial in St Austell to round off an energetic day for the whole club!
The seniors were part of a 60 strong field for the Falco road race and helped produce an excellent fifth place for Mark Wiffen, with the remainder finishing in the main bunch.
Meanwhile Jordan Channon gave indication of his future with a strong eighth place finish against much more experienced riders.
Other Tavistock Wheelers youth also showed their great promise in Somerset by staying with the bunch in a strong field from across the region; the club had the largest number of riders and it bodes well for the club as the season unfolds.
