THE third Buckland Bounder took place on Saturday with a record 124 runners representing many of the running clubs in the locality, in particular the Tamar Trail Runners, Plymouth Musketeers and Bere Alston Trekkers.

Despite it being a very hot day a new course record was set by Andy Connor in a time of 39 minutes 24, seconds also taking the fastest local male and first male over 40 category. In second place was Plymstock Road Runner Graham Bale in a time of 40.32, who also took first male over 50 and in third place was Nathan Newton of Tavistock Triathlon Club in 41.45.

The ladies’ race was won by Susie Spooner in 52.07; second place Paula Simpson of Plymouth Athletics Club in 52.57 also taking first female over 40 and third place was Nicole Heryet in 57.53; first female over 50 Pamela Duncan of Erme Valley Harriers in 1.04.34; first female over 60 Lynn Jones of Plymouth Musketeers in 1.36.32. Fastest local female, Samantha Febrey 59.35.

Tony Walne was first male over 60 in 1.05.49; Andy Houghton of Stannary Hash first male over 70, 56.39.

This year a children’s run, the Buckland Bouncer, took place for the first time, with 35 runners chasing Superman and being chased by a rather lovely fairy along the scenic course taking in the local footpaths and a route around the Garden House.

Race director Jan Moore said: ‘The Buckland Bounder committee thank all their supporters but in particular to Maristow Estate, Dartmoor National Park Authority, Dartmoor Search and Rescue Group, Rapid Relief Team, Dartmoor Brewery, Ever After Weddings, Tesco Tavistock and all our amazing marshals without whose continued support the event would not take place.’
