AS all eyes were looking out for a shock from the Scottish referendum, West Devon B were merrily coming from two down to provide a suprise of their own as they beat their A side in style in the Tavistock snooker league. The A team went two frames up with Kevin Rich (31) and Emptage scoring heavily to outplay Horrell and Toland. Emptage set the highest break of the season 'benchmark' with a well constructed 41 break. Then the fun began for the B Team, starting with John Smith stunning his rival Taylor with a couple of superb late strikes to steal the frame. Next John Rich punched well above himself to produce the unlikeliest of results in removing Heathman in another close encounter. The 'fait accompli' was completed with a resounding performance from Hoar who dismantled Morris in a one sided frame. So it came to be that on a night when all were questioning the 'West Lothian' dilemma, it was West Devon B providing all the answers. In the local Conservative A v Conservative B derby no quarter was expected or given. The B team took the early imitative as Monk took the last two balls to oust Cook in a game that neither were able to dominate. It was level after the next frame as Evans (senior) for Con A dominated the early stages but still had to fight off a spirited late challenge from Lillicrap. Longden put Con A in front again as he fought neck and neck with Evans (junior) until he took the black ball to wrest control from him. New summer signing for Con B Dent had a high scoring game against Con A's Carruthers as he took the last two balls to give Carruthers a rare taste of defeat. With the match all level it was left to Babb returning from his 'loan' spell (Torpoint) to sneak it for the A team, as he shook off a tentative start to click into gear and run out comfortable winner over Con B's Ewings.
