WEST Devon D toiled to beat Conservative C in the Tavistock Snooker league, finding their opponents are not the ‘push overs’ they have previously gained a reputation for.

Con C took the early initative with Davies keeping his concentration to take out the ‘never say die’ May. Con C could so easily have been two up if not for the cool head of West Devon D’s Pinkney, who held it together to fight off a spirited performance from Con’s C Weldon in a close affair.

Dodd took Con C in front again with a well worked win over West Devon D’s Decieco, only 10 points separating the two.

Davey for Con C showed some good spirit but it was the eventual superior potting power of WDD’s Paul Shrimpton that made the crucial difference.

With the game all square it was a tall order for the Con C’s last minute sub Bellamy to step up and save the day. WDD’s Ward took the frame but Bellamy did himself massive credit taking the frame to the wire, losing by a mere three points in a black ball game.

After a distinctly inauspicious start to the season, Con Z finally managed to regain some of last season’s quality with a win over West Devon C.

First to the table was Williams v Flack (senior) for the Con Z. In a hotly contested match Williams ground down Flack and eventually managed to take the point for his team despite a decent rear-guard action from Flack.  Shrimpton for West Devon had a much tougher game on his hands against Mayors, who managed a creditable 74 score-line, narrowly avoiding two breaks more than 20. Symons for the Con Z had a fine victory against Wannacott.

Flack (junior) fought a long and hard frame against Boyd neither player preparing to give an inch to his opponent with Flack narrowly gaining the point and the win.

Last to the table was Hodge for the Con Z, paired against his ex-team member Elliott. No quarter was asked or given in a rough and tough battle, with Elliott the eventual winner curtesy of a good 22 clearance. Despite the outcome Con Z will need to up their game in the forthcoming season if they are to avoid potential disaster in the league.
