WEST Devon B went joint top of the table in the Tavistock Snooker League but they knew they had been in a battle against a feisty Conservative C.
Ben Crowl took the first frame for Con C ousting West Devon’s skipper Gilchrist in a real battle. The second frame was never in doubt as free scoring Hoare pulled West Devon B level with a comfortable win over a lacklustre Weldon.
Con C’s Dodd then fell in a low scoring frame to the flamboyant Rich (senior) as West Devon went one up. Back again came Con C with stand in skipper Neale taking responsibility and holding his nerve to overcome Hart.
The deciding frame was a long affair but it was Horrell for the West Devon that composed himself enough to overcome the challenge from Crowl (senior).
Looking on the bright side, under Neale’s stewardship, Con C moved off the bottom of the league with these two points.
Unbeaten top of the table West Devon D were brought down to earth with a bump by ‘smash and grab’ Conservative A.
Lacey for Con A started slowly but a late spurt in the game was enough to hold Decieco at bay to put the Con A one up.
Babb made it two for the Con A with an imperious potting performance against Shrimpton (junior). Shrimpton was not on top of his game but Babb needed no second invitation to take full advantage.
West Devon pulled one back with a near text book performance from Pinkney, as he left Bell chasing shadows in a one sided frame.
That was as good as it got for West Devon D as Carruthers fended off some early pressure from Murton to ease over the line with some good late potting. The final frame between Con A’s Evans and West Devon’s skipper Hooper saw Hooper ‘throwing in the towel’ with two reds still left on the table paid testimony to the one sided nature of the frame.
