CONSERVATIVE Z team were at the wrong end of a severe thumping against the West Devon A team in the Tavistock Snooker league. This was despite some good performances, as West Devon closed the gap on leaders Conservative A to two points.
Rob Heathman for West Devon A produced a workman like performance albeit with a strong element of good fortune against the normally reliable Symons to take the first frame.
Flack for the Con Z came closest to a result on the night with a black ball game against Tim Taylor, who doubled the black the full length of the table to earn the plaudits. Jankowski set out with determination for the Con Z but determin-ation was not enough on the night against a steady potter like Keith Morris who took the frame comfortably. Hall drew the short straw against Rich of the West Devon A who when on form is unstoppable. Unfortunately for Hall, this was one of those evenings Rich was on form. Hall put up a brave fight but needed one too many snookers to claw his way back into the game.
Colin Heathman performed the fight back of the season against Chis Mayors. Looking dead and buried half way through, Heathman hit a 31 break and fought his way back into what looked liked a lost cause, leaving Mayors looking slightly bemused on the sidelines.
Conservative B eased into third spot in the league with a comprehensive 4-1 win over the 'hot and cold' West Devon B team.
Lillicrap came out on top in a scrappy frame against John Rich, backed up by skipper Evans, who overcame the useful Horrell to put Con B two up. Stand-in Ewings held his nerve against Gilchrist, to secure the third frame for Con B with a black ball finish.
The four came for the Con B courtesy of Dolan as he took full advantage of a recent bad run of form from Hoare. Roger Rich ensured that it was not a total 'wash out' for the West Devon B as he claimed the prize scalp of Con B's club champion Monk in a last ball finish.
This result puts a major dent in West Devon B team's aspirations of securing the B division title, leaving them only two points above West Devon C, with the latter having two games in hand.
