AFTER a cagey first ten minutes, Lamerton began to find their rhythm, moving the ball well around the pitch, with wingers Blair Vanstone and Jamie Montgomery both looking dangerous in possession.
In the 25th minute, the combination of the two wingers came close to scoring the opener for Lamerton, but Montgomery's headed effort from a Vanstone cross sailed wide of the St Columb goal.
Lamerton squandered a second opportunity in front of goal on the 30 minute mark, when James Steer played in Ed Bradshaw. Bradshaw managed to turn his marker inside the St Columb penalty area but the striker's snapshot effort across the St Columb keeper went narrowly wide of the far upright.
The second half started well for Lamerton, who again looked confident and dangerous going forward.
On the hour mark Lamerton had another opportunity to open the scoring when they were awarded a penalty after James Steer was brought down by the St Columb keeper.
But Lamerton's penalty taker Simon Kelly failed to convert the resulting spot kick.
Lamerton converted an opportunity when the visitors were awarded a free kick on the edge of the St Columb penalty area. Jay Palfreyman's effort from the set piece was spilled by the St Columb keeper. With Simon Kelly the quickest to react from the keeper's fumble, a thankful Kelly slotted the ball into the St Columb net.
Lamerton missed another gilt edged chance to extend their lead when Ed Bradshaw was given an opportunity on goal from a cross by Montgomery. With the St Columb goal at his mercy, Bradshaw shot over the crossbar from a few yards out.
James Steer was unlucky not to get on the score sheet for Lamerton in the latter stages of the game, when his shot from a Blair Vanstone cross came clattering of the St Columb crossbar.
