WEIR Quay Sailing Club's successful 2014 dinghy season finished with the club's annual cadet prize-giving and social evening at Bere Ferrers Hall. n THE second of three Weir Quay Sailing Club autumn dinghy races was a lively affair, southerly gale force winds challenging the crews to some exciting dinghy racing in blustery and choppy conditions,
Race One had seven boats with Steve and Aaron Kirby leading from the off and they crossed the line six minutes ahead of James and Julie Platts. Charles Platts, aged 10, the club's youngest helm, battled the elements in his reefed Topper. Five boats vied for position at the start of race two. Steve and Aaron capsized at the gybe mark but recovered to be only two seconds behind James and Julie in the much slower Bo'sun.
Results: Race one: 1, Steve Kirby/Aaron Kirby, Lark; 2 James Platts/Julie Platts, Bo'sun; 3, Richard Platts/Sam Madar, Pico. Race two: 1, James Platts/Julie Platts, Bo'sun; 2, Richard Platts/Sam Madar – Pico; 3, Nick Ferneyhough/Ian Brooks, Wayfarer.
