WEIR QUAY Sailing Club held a handicap dinghy race series on October 16, with the wind gusting over Force six.
Those brave souls who turned up were determined to sail over three races each with two laps of a 'sausage-shaped' course.
Chris Coomber and his crew of Sue Coomber and Steve Kirby in the Comet Trio valiantly completed the first race after heading for shore to fix a broken outhaul. Brendan Seward in the Laser also suffered a broken mainsail block but managed an effective repair to finish first across the line in all three races. Gary Strong and his crew of Judy Strong and Graham Reed in the Wayfarer did exceptionally well.
Eleanor Eastman and Sophie Dandy in the RS Vision were commendably competitive and consistent in all the races.
As the last race of the 2014 season, the day was typical of the dedication and enthusiasm from all members within the club. Thanks go to Andy and Jake Holmes for the safe running of this event and organisers gave a big thank you to the large cohort whose work has made the season such a success.
Results: First race, Brendan Seward, Laser: second, Chris Coomber, Comet Trio; third, Eleanor Eastman, RS Vision and fourth, Gary Strong, Wayfarer.
