TAMAR Trail Warriors took on a Snowdonian ultra challenge at the weekend in North Wales.
Tucked away beyond Snowdonia’s craggiest peaks with the Irish Sea on one side and Cardigan Bay on the other, the Llyn Peninsula has a distinctive, unspoiled character that’s all its own. Its sunny southern coast draws walkers, wakeboarders, and dinghy-sailors,
There are several islands dotted around the peninsula, with the famous ancient pilgrimage site of Bardsey Island, at its tip and can be seen in all its beauty during the race. The islands and coastline of Llyn are a haven for wildlife and an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Seals and dolphins are common sites around the peninsula. All of this makes a perfect backdrop for the Pen Llyn Ultra.
Three Warriors had a 5am start for a run around the Pen Llyn Peninsula. It was blistering hot with no shade, 76.6 miles with an elevation of 2,523 feet.
It took 22 hours 10 minutes on their feet, but they did it in style finishing with Mel Green and Sarah Tippett as joint second ladies. They thanked Stuart Queen for his constant motivation.
Warriors also enjoyed an evening at the beach in Polzeath. Starting and finishing on one of the best beaches in Cornwall, the 10k trail race does a loop of Pentire headland on the coastpath.
Nathan Christmas finishing in 49 minutes 16 second, then Dave Gale 59.34, followed by Nick Page 1.05.04 first lady back for the warriors was Susannah Boulle 1.07.56 then Donna Baker and Louise Cheetham both came in together 1.11.31 and then Hillary Head 1.17.57.
