Yelverton Villa 2

Millbridge Inn 3

MILLBRIDGE came to Yelverton riding high as the league's top scorers.

However, this did not prevent Yelverton from gifting them three goals and ultimately three points!

Playing down the slope, Millbridge had the better start but, despite having more of the play, they did not pose a great threat to the Villa goal.

However, it was indiscipline in the Villa defence which led to the opening goal, in the 20th minute, when Millbridge launched a hopeful ball to the corner of the penalty area and two Villa players went for, and missed, the same ball allowing the Millbridge winger to cross the ball to an unmarked team mate bursting into the box to fire home.

Worse was to follow seven minutes later, when Mike Ball, the Villa keeper, was called upon to deal with a one on one situation, but completely missed his clearance leaving the Bridge attacker with an open goal to put Villa further behind.

To their credit Villa did start to put some good football together with Ben Pridham, Lloyd Pomfret and Jonny Leppert showing great movement and selfless running to create a number of good opportunities but mainly poor finishing and some outstanding goalkeeping by the Millbridge keeper kept Villa at bay.

Yelverton started the second half with a greater determination and piled on the pressure. Mike Chatfield, Colin Murray and Tom Goswell dominated the midfield but against the run of play an untimely error from Jed Langdon saw Villa concede a third in the 70th minute.

Villa laid siege to the Millbridge goal forcing the keeper to pull off a string of fine saves before substitute, Ben Maughan, got behind the Millbridge defence and pulled the ball back from the by-line for Leppert to tap in.

Villa's Dave Harwood goal bound shot was handled in the box. He calmly slotted home the resultant spot kick giving Villa a lifeline, but despite peppering shots at the Millbridge goal, Villa could not find a way past the keeper and Millbridge clung on for the win.
