P & WD League 4
Yelverton Villa 3
Nova Homes 2
AT last Yelverton recorded the victory that their recent performances have been promising, against third placed Nova Homes who were previously unbeaten in the league.
Villa controlled the game from the outset and created a number of chances, including a fine long range strike from Mike Blagdon, which kept the Nova keeper busy.
The breakthrough came after 20 minutes, when Mike Chatfield's pass put Ben Pridham clean through on goal, but the striker was scythed down in the penalty area. Dave Harwood stepped up to score from the spot.
Villa continued to dominate the game with Ben Maughan and Ian Harvey causing the Nova defence problems down both wings, but despite the pressure there were no more goals before the break.
The second half was more evenly matched as Nova came out all guns blazing, but Villa's good football was rewarded when Adam Measom doubled the lead after 50 minutes with a towering header from Harwood's free kick. However, this success was short-lived as Nova struck back immediately from the restart.
Villa extended their lead midway through the half when Measom netted for a second time, again rising above the Nova defence to head home another Harwood free kick.
Nova piled on the pressure as they attempted to rescue the game and pulled one goal back at the death, but Villa held out for a well deserved win.
