TAVISTOCK Hire knew a win would just about secure promotion but anything less than that would mean a battle for third place would go on.

The visitors started slowly on a blustery day and should have been one down after five minutes when the University team broke away and were one on one with the keeper only for there striker to scuff wide. Tavi Hire slowly came back into the game and a good ball from Tom Scott set Des Newton free and for him to hit the ball high and wide of the target.

The Tavistock team were hanging on and just before half time Unverisity broke down the left and a great cross found their right winger who got in behind Dan Behanna to tap home.

Tavi Hire went for an equaliser in the second half.

With ten minutes remaining University hit the post from eight yards out. Tavistock manager Shaun Moloney brought himself on to try and shake things up but apart from a few half chances from Dave Wilkinson and Sam Saunders were unable to grab the equaliser.
