THE fortunes in this game ebbed and flowed with Whitchurch doing their best to give the game away to Chelston Kingskerswell.

Ben Powell and Andy Alford made a solid start, but missed out on working a fielding team lacking four players after a travel mix up.

Alford ran himself out for 31. Eighty had been added for the first wicket but when one went the other followed, Powell dismissed for 38.

There were contributions from Wallace (25) and Scott (21) but neither went on to play the crucial innings.

Bob Powell saw off Chelston's key threat Shah (4 for 21) and capitalised on some late innings bowling to post 58 not out, eventually running out of partners as Whitchurch were dismissed for 212 with two balls to go.

In reply, Northey made an early breakthrough, but Ibbotsen (19) and Brenton (33) made the most of Whitchurch's lack of an opening bowling partnership.

The introduction of bowler Credicott changed the game. He struck immediately to remove Brenton and then Shah, before Scholes was run out first ball after good fielding from Northey.

Whitchurch mixed the bowlers up. Credicott was the pick with 3 for 25, with contributions from Scott 2 for 19, Hodge 2 for 28 and Tamblin returning for a better second spell.

Whitchurch eventually won by 53 runs. Whitchurch will need to improve their lines for next week, after conceding 37 wides.

n WHITCHURCH travelled to Dartington and Totnes after a good win against Kingsbridge the week before.

The West Devon side won the toss and elected to bowl first. Bowling proved to be the right decision as Whitchurch picked up frequent early wickets with Kerswell (3-6) leading the way with a spell that included seven maidens. Towl (1-37) was more expensive but the pair managed to put all the pressure on the home side's batsman.

D Poole (1-18) continued to keep the runs down as well as picking up another wicket leaving the home side on 51-5. Cook (35) and Stevenson (4) batted sensibly and stopped Whitchurch's charge but never took the game from the travelling side. When Stevenson was out the wickets began to flow and B Barriball mopped up the tail taking two wickets in two balls which saw Dartington and Totnes slump to 112 all out with only five overs left in their innings.

Before tea the Wayfarers were 26 without loss. After tea Elliot was the first to go. C Barriball, Towl, Sherrell and Smith then all lost their wickets with 21 added to the score between them.

The Wayfarers' captain reached 27 in a partnership with Bone that steadied the ship for the away side. But when B Barriball was out the home side were back in the game with Whitchurch needing 25 runs.

Nigel Barriball, Bone and Poole fell in quick succession and it was up to Kerswell and Sambells to get the remaining 19 runs with five overs left. With eight needed off the last over Sambells crashed two boundaries in three balls to see the away side to their second successive victory.
