PLAYERS from Horribridge Badminton Club took part in a social tournament at the Plymouth Life centre early this month and came away winning two of the three main titles.

It was organised so that players who do not play in league badminton can experience a flavour of competition by playing against others in Devon.

Horrabridge was represented by 11 club member in a single mixed age group. The club had representatives in the women's doubles, the men's doubles and also the mixed doubles.

Its first success went to Louise Greenaway and Pen Williams, who won the 'round robin' section without losing any games and therefore progressed to the final. The final was one game all with the third and deciding game to play, which Louise and Pen won to take the ladies' doubles title. In the men's doubles Steve De'ath and Ian Spears won two of their round robin matches and Bob Davis and a guest partner also doing well.

Steve McCormick and Mike King had also progressed through the round robin by winning all their games, and then winning the semi final game. This set up a three game final which Steve and Mike won in two games to take the men's doubles title.

The mixed doubles started with Bob Davis and Kerry Ward, Mike King and Lynda and Steve and Kate McCormick with Bob Davis and Kerry Ward and Steve and Kate progressing to the semis.
