Plymouth Netball division five

TT3 11

Mavericks 25

TT3 knew they were in for a tough battle playing third in the league Mavericks. Mavericks put a lot of pressure on TT3’s centre court players and a few silly errors saw TT3 soon 8-0 down.

There were chances for the Tavistock side but hesitation in passing found errors. A good passage of play saw TT3’s Hannah Cole pass to Siobhan Rescorla who fed to Lorraine Hucker to put the side on the board.

Jade Coupland worked hard against Maverick’s strong WA and backed the defence of Sarah Daymond and Sky May, who had a tough time against the shooters.

By the end of the first quarter it was 8-1 to the Mavericks.

TT3 captain Charlotte Hill came on at WA and the side’s player of the match Jordan Tillyer moved from WA to GA. Hill and Tillyer worked well together along with Robyn Hammond but goals were not being awarded.

The defence were still trying to break the Mavericks’ attacks. However, Tracey Coupland picked up a loose ball which was converted. So at the end of the second quarter it was 14-3 to the Mavericks.

This was a better quarter for TT3 with less errors being made. There was a good passage of play coming down the court with players now fighting for the ball and tips having been made.

An excellent reverse hand by Daymond saw the ball brought down court by Cole passed to Hill, who found Tillyer on the back line.  Daymond was giving good security at the back and fighting the ball down and now winning more ball. A superb long range shot from Tillyer near the end of the quarter found the net. TT3 lost the quarter 5-4 but such a better quarter and it ended 19-7 to the Mavericks.

TT3 carried on from where they finished the last quarter. Tillyer was using the back line in her favour and Hill found her on several occasions. Rescorla picked up the missed shot and scored.

Tired legs were now showing but the fight was still there running balls down. Mavericks won it 6-4 but there were a lot of positives to take away from the second half.
