TAVISTOCK Swimming Club is delighted that Esther Rookes, the competition secretary and successful multi-tasking performer of many other roles at the club and within the South West region, has been named the runner-up National Swim England Volunteer of the Year. This follows her recent success as South West regional winner in this category.
These are well-earned accolades. Esther’s commitment, knowledge, efficiency, enthusiasm and hours of sheer hard work are without equal.
She was presented with her award by Leon Taylor (Olympic medallist) and Aimee Willmott (Commonwealth champion and European medallist) at a glittering awards ceremony, held in the historic Great Hall in the University of Birmingham.
Esther said she was there as a representative of so many unsung heroes who perform voluntary roles within the sport and without whom the clubs, committees and galas could not function.
