THIS week saw three members of Tavistock Running Project representing their second claim club Plymouth Harriers, in order to participate in the extremely popular local cross country league — the Westward League.

This competition is a monthly meeting of the strongest and best cross country runners from around the South West. This was the second meeting out of six and was held at Newquay Sports Centre in extremely taxing conditions; with gale force winds in place, proving true guts and determination amongst all who took part.

First up from the TRP clan was Samantha Lake, donning her debut Harriers’ vest. The women’s race was as packed as ever and included the U17 boys and girls and U20 women. An extremely cold and windy start meant Sam had a battle on her hands from the start; however she ran a strong race, finishing in a good position, (official results still pending) with a positive time to move forward with, into the next meeting.

Next up was the men’s race. The wind, as strong as ever did not deter the gutsy group and from the off it looked to be a great race from the front, with TRP team members, Jim Cole and Jordan Andrews justling for the front positions for Plymouth Harriers.

Jordan made a great start running amongst the lead pack; Jim utilised his experience in these tough cross country races and paced the race extrmely well, picking off the field to finish in a strong ninth place. Jordan finished not far behind in a great 14th.

All three gained vital points for their Harriers team and will now carry these forward to the next meeting in around a month at Exeter. Another superb result from all their hard work and dedication to training at Tavistock Run Project.
