ECV Hornets 1
Tavistock 10
TAVISTOCK travelled to Exeter to take on East Culm Valley Hornets in what should have been a routine victory but with testing weather conditions it was not going to be an easy game.
The league leaders put in the best 35 minutes of the season so far in the first half and went in to the break leading 7-0.
A combination of discipline in defence, good decision making and pace in attack allowed the Reds to race into a 5-0 lead within 15 minutes.
The phrase ‘like a hot knife through butter’ seems appropriate in terms of describing the Tavistock attack, Hornets had no answer for their skill or pace.
Five minutes into the second half Tavistock suffered a blow when former Mount Kelly student Barney Megicks was forced off with an injury, meaning they would play the last 30 minutes with just ten players.
Tavistock maintained the high tempo but were on occasions caught short at the back by a spirited Hornets team.
The goals came from Bob Carr 4, Mark Forshaw 2, Ollie Richards 2 and Si Fenwick 2.
