LAST weekend, a team of tennis coaches and local players raised money for Sport Relief in Callington by attempting to play continuous tennis for 24-hours. With the help of junior players and their families, coaches from tennisMAD, a Plymouth-based coaching business, aimed to reach a target of £1,000 for Sport Relief, which could provide a village in Kenya with a clean water supply forever.

The event began on 11am on Saturday and was held at the tennis dome on the Callington Community College site. It was also being held simultaneously at tennisMAD's other main coaching centre, The South Devon Tennis Centre, Ivybridge, so that funds were raised in both Cornwall and Devon.

Director and coach Ben Knight said the aim of the challenge was for continuous tennis to be played on one court throughout the entire 24 hours, so if a player stopped for a break then another player immediately stepped onto the court and play continued. Family and friends came along to support the players, each of whom had raised sponsorship money.
