WRAPPED up well against the cold easterly wind, members of Tavistock Tennis Club competed for the Hospice Cup on Saturday.

This is an annual intra-club tournament which raises money for a children’s hospice.

This year the winners were Peter Bradley and Sue Parsons who defeated Richard Hendin and Maggie Lilley in the final.

The latter, having dropped 1-5 behind, threatened a comeback, but at 3-5 the consistency and accuracy of Peter’s play coupled with Sue’s powerful flat forehands overcame Maggie and Richard.

The trophy was presented to the winners by club president, David Isaac.

The club will be initiating new programmes to attract beginners (and returners, aka ‘rusty racquets’) young and old to play tennis this summer, so even if you’ve never picked up a tennis racquet before, go down to the club to have a go.
