IN the battle of last year's top two teams in the Tavistock Snooker League it was the current title holders Conservative A that edged out West Devon A in a predictably close encounter.
West Devon A's Heathman was on the end of some good snooker from Carruthers. Two 20 plus breaks from Carruthers gave him a comfortable lead. Kevin Rich soon pulled WDA all square again as he potted strongly and was soon out of sight with Cook also helping to contribute to his own demise with some loose snooker. Lacey for the Con A had a good run but it was the more ruthless Morris that took the crucial balls to grab the frame for West Devon.
The next frame saw some good potting as both Cons Longden and West Devon's Taylor produced some free flowing attacking snooker. In the end Taylor could probably count himself unlucky as a rattled pink allowed Longden to pounce and take the last two balls to win.
Text book stuff from Evans (senior) followed in the final deciding frame as he controlled much of the frame with solid potting and thoughtful safety play. Even a late rally from last week's 40 break man, Emptage was not enough as Evans held his nerve and took the frame and the match for the Con A.
Conservative C team took a surprise two frame lead over current leaders Conservative B. Wilkinson came from behind with a superb 22 clearance to stun the B Team's Dolan and Whiley notched up his first league win at the expense of the B team's Ewings.
McKechnie (junior) then stopped the rot as he overcame a tenacious Roffey to pull one back for Con B Team and Dent drew them level with another solid performance over the Con C's Neale.
The deciding frame was one way traffic as the B Team's skipper Evans (Junior) who made short work of Cath Friend to save his team's blushes.
Despite this lose the C Team can look at the table and find more comfortable viewing as they sit proudly in second spot rather than at the bottom which has been historically the case.
Every game so far in the league after four weeks of snooker has finished 3-2.
