TAVISTOCK swimmers Yvonne and Cameron Carpenter-Warren and Chris Anderson represented Tavistock Swimming Club at the Royal Navy Open Masters meet at Millfield last month. Yvonne (45-49 age group) swam in five events, coming fifth in the 400m freestyle, fourth in the 50m breaststroke, sixth in both the 50m and 100m freestyle, and won a silver medal for second place in the 100m breaststroke. In the 18-24 age group Cameron came seventh in the 50m freestyle and won a bronze medal for third place in the 50m butterfly. Chris (60-64 age group) won gold medals for first place in the 50m and 100m backstroke, and took third place bronze medals in the 50m and 100m freestyle. Tavistock Masters are a growing section of the club, training at 8pm on Tuesday evenings at Meadowlands Pool. If you are interested in joining them then do go along, have some enjoyable swimming with club coach James Lake in attendance – previous competition swimming is definitely not a requirement – and you don't have to aspire to be a competitive swimmer, just enjoy improving your technique and getting fitter.
