Okehampton Ladies 4
ISCA Ladies 3
A TEAM from Okehampton Ladies Hockey Club travelled to Exeter on Sunday to take part in ISCA Hockey Club's centenary celebrations by playing a friendly fixture against ISCA Ladies.
ISCA began in confident style forcing Oke to defend deep in their own half. Quick passing and fast movement across the pitch soon resulted in a penalty corner for ISCA which they converted into a well taken goal.
Oke began to settle and started to intercept the ball putting together some good attacking moves. Just before half-time Oke conceded another goal after a period of intense ISCA pressure.
The second half saw Okehampton step up their game with midfielders Winnie Rademaker and Sarah Jones passing the ball around the ISCA players. Oke attacker Jo Moppett capitalised by drawing the defence before passing to Molly Petherbridge who slotted the ball into the left side of the net.
Oke soon equalised from a penalty corner. Moppett and Bale worked well together passing the ball around the ISCA defence before Bale hammered the ball into the back of the goal.
Their third goal came when Winnie Rademaker won the ball in midfield. She passed to Sarah Jones who quickly moved the ball out wide to Bale. A swift pass found Moppett in the ISCA circle and Petherbridge was perfectly placed to receive the final pass before putting the ball past the keeper.
ISCA surged forward, forcing Oke to mark tightly and tackle hard. Goalie Shannon Osman made some crucial saves clearing the ball well but a penetrating ISCA shot from the top of the circle found the back of the Oke net.
The last 10 minutes saw end to end hockey with both teams hungry for the winning goal. Oke's break came when Moppett received the ball and sped down the left side of the pitch swiftly passing the ball to Petherbridge who made no mistake in scoring the winning goal and her hat-trick.
