ONE of the most important fixtures in Tavistock Golf Club's calendar is the Captain's Charity Day – an annual event that, over the years, has raised thousands of pounds. Parkinson's (UK) and Muscular Dystrophy (Tavistock support branch) are the chosen charities by this year's captains John Harding and Bridget Luckham. At the end of a successful and well supported day a delighted John Harding announced that £6,300 had been raised and added 'we are still counting!' He said 'Our grateful thanks to all those who have so generously donated, not only their money, but their time and participating in the day's events.' In the Charity Day four ball better ball the winning men's pair were Jack and Ben Philpotts with 47 points, runners up Mike Wakely and Glyn Cunnick with 46pts. In the mixed pairings first were George and Nicky Gawman with 46pts and runners up were Gareth and Wendy George 44pts. With 43pts Janet Kiely and Donna Gage were the top ladies pair; runners up with 42pts, Carolyn Crawford and Norma Thewlis. The Luckham Trophy for the best overall score was won by the Philpotts brothers.
