DESPITE the wind and rain nearly all the scheduled matches and competitions have been played at Tavistock Golf Club.

Two competitions that were cancelled was the ladies three ball better ball open, which is now rescheduled for Tuesday, August 14, and the men's guest day whose date is yet to be announced.

The Ladies Challenge bowl and Pat Turnbull trophy is a 36 hole medal competition played over two consecutive days.  On day one the competition was played in good golfing conditions with Patty Congo scoring a superb nett 71 closely followed by Dawn Phillott with nett 72 and, in third place, Shirley Trevena with nett 73 on countback from Julie Harding.  However, on day two strong winds made conditions very different from the first day. 

Wendy George was first with nett 74 with Margot Angel, Dawn Phillott and Maggie Hillman all with nett 75.  Winner of the Challenge bowl with the best score was Dawn Phillott with nett 147, runner up was Wendy George with a nett 148. Dawn also won the Pat Turnbull trophy with the best gross score of 163, runner up was Belinda McSherry with gross 171.

The men's Kiely Cup was played in tough conditions  but the winners, Dan Pratley and Paul Congo, had a combined score of 67 points.  Close behind were the runners up Mark Steven and Andy Hills with 66 pts.  

More benign conditions prevailed for the men's four ball better ball open with the winners Marc Ninnnis and John Hayward scoring 44 pts, second Nick Sneesby and Julian Collison 42pts, third Kevin Northcote and Paul Whitby 41pts. 

The juniors played for the Simon Gilder Cup which was won by Mike Henderson with nett 69.  Second was Sam Jessop with nett 73 on countback from Rob Beveridge. 

Juniors with handicaps 29/54 played a Stableford competition with Johanus Clifford-Flower scoring an excellent 38pts.  Second Callum Boon with 34 pts and in third place was Luis Inacio with 30 pts.
