ALL the West Devon snooker sides turned out some good performances in the Jack May Knock Out Cup quarter finals as they guaranteed three sides a place in the semi finals to be played next week. The only Conservative side left in the tournament is Con Z as they dug deep to overcome Conservative A in a final frame decider. Wins for Hall and a 'walk-over' countered the Con A team's wins for Bell and Carruthers, leaving the responsibility to Symons, who grasped the opportunity with both hands to take his side through. Last season's winner Conservative B could not replicate previous glories as they fell to a solid showing from West Devon D. Leading from the front, West Devon D's skipper Hooper set the tone with a well fought win, backed up by a vintage performance from May to make it two. Shoulders sealed the Con B's fate with a good result to give his side a deserved 3-0 victory. West Devon C then booked their place in the semis against bottom of the league Conservative C.  The match proved to be a real nail biter with the first three games all going to the wire, and all three being decided on the black ball. It was 2-1 to West Devon C with Neale for Con C beating Williams, and Shrimpton and Hodge for West Devon beating Wilkinson and Jago.  The fourth game saw West Devon anchorman Pinkney take on the Con C's eternal reserve, Gliddon.  With some excellent potting and safety play Gliddon ran out an easy winner, leaving the match all square with only the captains left to play the decider. Elliott, for West Devon, soon clawed back his starting deficit, but then the game was one of cat and mouse with only a few points separating the two. With the tension increasing Elliott eventually took the frame and sealed the match for West Devon.
