Brixham ladies 2
AFTER almost four months of no fixtures, Tavistock Community FC Ladies were finally able to resume their football season as hosts to Brixham Villa at home on Crowndale.
Tavistock started strong but were evenly matched by the Brixham Villa Ladies. Tavistock gained the upper hand, with a flick on from Sarah Martin to Becky Turner, who volleyed the ball into the back of the net. Brixham soon equalised with a top corner shot to make the game 1-1. Tavistock secured the lead again, with a great ball played through from defender Chelsea Starbuck to Donna Weeks, who left two players standing to score a left footed shot into the bottom right corner.
A few minutes into the second half, Tavistock stretched their lead. A third came from a corner crossed in by Robyn Hammond, which met the head of Jess Eales to score her first goal in ladies' football.
Tavistock battled through the second half and team spirit remained high, with the defenders and midfielders working hard to keep the lead. When the ball did break through, goalkeeper Lauren Schuttkacker was confident and made some superb saves.
The fourth goal came midway through the half, with a great ball played through the Brixham players by Sarah Blowey for Kirsty Jones to drill the ball into the goal with her left foot.
Brixham upped the tempo for the remainder of the game and scored a second but Tavistock remained firm and worked hard for their win.
