ON a dank drizzly afternoon in a match likely to decide this season's league winners the heavy ground played a large part in the outcome.

North Tawton started strongly and during the first 15 minutes camped within Penryn's five metre line – the muddy, wet ball caused considerable handling errors from both sides.

Superb tackling from both sides kept North Tawton at bay until some excellent passing along the back line, with a great wrap round from Hayley Hopkins and Anne Webb saw Hopkins run round the outside of the Penryn defence to score in the corner.

Late into the second half Hopkins struck again with a breakaway try running nearly the length of the pitch to score under the posts;, the conversion gave the home side a 12-0 lead at the interval.

The second half followed a similar pattern with both teams suffering handling errors caused by the conditions.

Penryn finally penetrated North Tawton's defence to score but could not convert.

Player of the match was North Tawton ladies' Ann Webb.
