SIX Tavistock Athletic Club runners were among those taking part in the Tavy 7. Two of the six — Kate Bray and Kathryn Guy — were running their first race with the club. Both had first attended the club as members of the Tavy Joggers, a 10-week course which encouraged both new runners and those who wished to return to running after a break.
Both ran strongly on this undulating course, Kate finishing in 1hour 11minutes 29 seconds, and Kathryn in 1.13.50 — both excellent results.
Jack Lawson excelled, finishing in overall second place in 41.26. Jon Meek was next club runner home in 48.09. Christine Le Flem won her FV65+ age category in 1.00.08 and Sue Rowe ran strongly, finishing a few minutes later.
The following weekend, in Plymouth 10k, once again two new club members ran their first races for the club. Alison Endean has also joined TAC following the 10 weeks of Tavy Joggers. She ran with Ann Woodhouse around the city streets and both finished in 1.20.07. This was a first race for Sally Copson-Ball and she ran very well, to finish in 56.16.
U20 James Best was first club runner home, continuing his fine form to finish in 14th position, in 36.24. Jack Lawson was seconds behind, in 17th position. Richard Best completed in 44.27 and Darryl Beelby in 46.19.
On the same day, 12 TAC members travelled to Bideford for the final race of the club's Grand Prix, devised by Paul Marshal. As a fitting finale to this competition, all 12 TACs achieved awards for their age/time performance, and the club ladies team consisting of Jo Meek, Christine Le Flem and Kate Rogers finished in overall second place.
Jo Meek was second lady to the finish. Andy Houghton, Trevor Williams and Christine Le Flem all won their age categories, whilst Kate Rogers finished third in hers.
Jason Shipton, Andy Houghton, Ann-Marie Chater and Claire and Adrian Pitcher, running together, all gained personal best times – an excellent end to this successful race series.
