THE 2012 Tavistock Veterans' Open on May 2 took place on a bright, sunny day with 196 players —representing 27 different clubs teeing-off. 

Winners for the visitors were John Baker (Royal North Devon) and Bob Barter (Great Torrington) with 42 points; 2, Chester Barnes and Chris Coles (Churston) 40pts; 3, Tom Berry and Colin Parr (Downes Crediton) 40pts.

Winners from the home players were Harvey Leach and Ian Rose on 44; 2, Kevin Northcote and Paul Whitby, 41; 3, Peter Anglis and Ian Osborne 41. The mens' three ball better ball Medal Open also attracted a large field of 46 teams.  The Boringdon Park Golf Club team of Nick Somerset, Nick Wasley and Wayne Reading were first with 139 followed by the Tavistock team Alan Gawman, Nick Coe and Chris Gawman with 142.  Tavistock also took third place with Peter Anglis, Dave Treble and Danvers Hough on 143.

The weather was not so kind for the Harvey Frost Foursomes but the winning pair, Tony Cooper and Bev Ruth, scored a superb 41pts beating Max Clarke and Belinda MacSherry on countback. 

The ladies' monthly medal was played in conjunction with the Marilyn Allen Trophy for past lady captains. For the second year running Maggie Hillman won with a nett 77. 

In the mens' George Kitley Salver Junior Will Stenhouse topped division one with 44pts to win the salver; 2, Graham Ruth, 38 and 3, Mike Beveridge, 37.  In division two first was Graham Kelly, 41, 2, Brian Williams 38, 3, Rob Staniland 36 on countback from Adrian Beer.
