FOUR members of Tavistock Swimming Club travelled to Millfield School in Street, Somerset to take part in the British Gas ASA South West regional short course championships.
Three of the swimmers had not competed in these championships before and two of them — Nathaniel Rookes and Cameron McGurk — had not competed at any previous South West region competition before.
They competed in a total of 14 events, achieving five personal best times, while all their other times recorded were close to their personal bests. Kieran Rookes reached the final in the 50m breaststroke.
Kieran Rookes recorded a personal best time in the men's 200m individual medley. In the same session at the men's 50m freestyle Cameron, Kieran and Nathaniel competed with Cameron achieving a personal best time.
Kieran and Nathaniel competed in the 50m breaststroke, with a strong heat swim allowing Kieran to reach the hotly contested final.
James Anderson joined the other three swimmers for the second day, where Cameron produced a three second personal best in the 200m backstroke. Kieran and Nathaniel swam the 100m breaststroke, which saw them produce good swims. Cameron competed in the 50m butterfly in the same heat as a British international swimmer. James took part in the men's 400m freestyle, where an excellent swim resulted in a five second personal best time.
Nathaniel swam in the 50m backstroke with James in the men's 1500m freestyle where a 25 second personal best saw him win a silver medal in the junior 15 and under age group.
