TAVISTOCK Squash Club held its first ever Devon Junior Squash graded tournament. The tournament was open to all the county juniors as part of a series of tournaments to encourage competitive play.
The event comprised of two graded sections both containing seven players. In the grade C section, Tavistock Squash Club had four juniors playing and all rose to the occasion. The tournam ent took a round robin format where all the participants played one another. After a tiring morning, Kieran Savage (Tavistock College) came out victorious, after beating his fellow club member Ben Bailey (Devonport School for Boys) in a hard fought game 15-10.
Kieran was delighted to win his first tournament, as he had finished fourth in all four junior tournaments held so far this season.
Andrei Catrina and Alex Wardle (both Tavistock College) finished fourth and fifth respectively, which again was a pleasing outcome as they both played well throughout the morning.
In the B grade, both Kieran and Andrei played up and found the going tough, with Kieran finishing sixth and Andrei finishing seventh. The B grade was eventually won by county player Cerys Williams from Newton Abbot.
Tournament organiser Steve Mooney was delighted with how the tournament went and was grateful to all the parents who helped out on the day and to Tavistock firm The Original Pasty House for sponsoring the event.
