TAVISTOCK Squash Club officially welcomed new and existing members to view its brand new facilities last Saturday.

The official re-opening saw about 30 squash and racketball players — some brand new and some who attended the original opening of the club in 1978 — gather to cut the ribbon and celebrate after months of hard work.

A grant of £65,000 from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund along with a further £15,000 from the club itself, has provided state of the art changing rooms and substantially updated the fabric of the building which has turned the organisation into a modern sports facility that Tavistock can be proud of.

The club is now ready to welcome new members and a range of activities have been organised to show off the improvements from ‘bring a friend’ nights to coaching sessions from top professional players.

Club chairman, Simon Powell, said: ‘We hope the investment will encourage more people to take up squash and racketball, with particular emphasis on younger people, who can keep the club going for many more years to come.

‘Our focus has been on keeping a vibrant, exciting and competitive sports facility.’
