AFTER the deluge of the previous days, a bright, crisp morning provided ideal conditions for the runners in the annual Tavy 7 on Sunday.

Tavistock Run Project had 13 participants with notable absentees being past winners Jordan Andrews and Jim Cole.

However, the club showed its depth with some strong performances in both the male and female category.

Marc Smerdon led the team home in fifth place while Oliver Smart was running comfortably in second through four miles before stomach cramps forced him to jog home in a forlorn 16th place. Good packing saw Ed Smith, Ed Smart and Craig Howells finish within 45 secs of each other followed closely by Matt Teague and Crispin Chambers. Rounding out the male athletes were Addie Cossack, James Vassey and Umberto Bergonzini.

The female race was particularly strong this year however Rachael Malthouse was to the fore finishing fifth overall. She was supported by Hayley Clarke and Hannah Walters who rounded out at strong team effort.

Next up for TRP will be the Westward league cross country at Newquay in two weeks time.
