THE season at Tavistock Golf Club is exceptionally busy with club competitions and matches. The ladies' Still Cup scratch team had an excellent win in the semi-finals of the Devon County Still Cup event, beating East Devon at Staddon Heights 4-3 — the second year the team has qualified for the finals, and are determined to go one better this year when they meet Thurlestone. The men had a good win in the semi-final of the Parker Trophy when they beat East Devon 2 ½ to a half at Stover. The Parker Trophy is an equally prestigious Devon Club competition and is contested on a scratch basis by the top 35 Devon clubs. In the final to be played at Bovey Castle, Tavistock will face Fingle Glen. The President's Day Stableford is well supported and this year was no exception when 133 members took part. Kevin Quick was the top man with an excellent 43 points on count back from junior Tom White and top lady was Sue Gawman with a score of 38 pts. In the men's Freeman Cup/Hampshire Cup qualifier the cup is played for by medal winners in the past 12 months; in the Hampshire Cup qualifier the top 16 in the top two divisions go through to the next round. Ed Smith topped division one with net 66, second Gary Davies net 68 on count back from Nigel Roberts. In division two Danny Brockington had a net 68 on count back from Andy Furse, third was Rob Score with net 69. Kevin Parris had net 65 in division three, second Ajay Patel net 71, third Jamie Ninnis net 72. Paul Crump with a net 71 won the Freeman Cup.  In the men veterans' Ken Kendall Trophy the winner was Ian Gasper with a net 67, runner up was John Thewlis net 69 on count back from Ken Kendall. In the Basil Steer Trophy competition Jerry Bawden with a net 66 took the Cup, runner up was Rich Potts with net 67 on count back from Mike Watkins In the ladies' monthly stableford scoring was close in division one with Belinda McSherry on 38 points on count back from Dawn Phillott and Chris Leach. In division two – first Joy Harrison 40 pts, second Hazel Cash 33pts, third Sybil Cole 31pts on count back from Ginny Samborne. Jill Millichamp in division three had 36pts on count back from Joan Newland, third Val Facey 31pts.  In the Closed Course meeting  Sue Gawman had an excellent game winning the Mollie Muirhead Salver for the best scratch bronze with a gross 93 and the Chris Leach Trophy with a net 68. The Muirhead Salver for the best scratch silver went to Kayleigh Cann with gross 76. In the silver division Dawn Dennis had a net 72 on count back from Patty Congo, third Shirley Trevena net 73, fourth Fran Horton net 77.  In the bronze division – first Rosemary Rea net 72, second Pat Pope net 76, third Hazel Cash net 77 and fourth Carolyn Crawford net 78.
