TAVISTOCK Amateur Boxing Club’s Peter Jarman travelled to Lympstone to represent the Western Counties against the UK Armed Forces in the National Championship quarter-final.

This was always going to be a tough task for Pete who had not yet quite recovered from his superb effort last weekend when he had hard rounds in becoming Western Counties champion.

The Armed Forces representative was Lance Corporal Evington of the RAF. The bout started well for Pete whose longer reach and more accurate punching was evident; the RAF boxer’s punching was powerful and towards the middle of the first round he started to find some good body shots and head punches. In the second round Pete tried to establish a longer game with some accurate punching but once again the serviceman came back with some very strong shots to head and body. In the third Pete was initially in charge with good measured shots and some good footwork. Evington was still coming forward with some powerful punching and took the latter part of the round. The decision was given to the RAF boxer. Pete is to be congratulated. However he was always a threat, and received praise from all at ringside for his efforts.
