TAVISTOCK Athletic Club members were among those who took part in a New Year's Day run from Jamaica Inn, Bodmin Moor  to the top of the near by Brown Willy, the highest point in Cornwall.

It was a run and not a race, as the organiser carefully explained, although the 300 plus participants completely ignored this of course.

The 'run' was roughly seven miles and while Brown Willy is not exactly high, the terrain is tough. Most of the course was hilly, wet, boggy moor and mixed with rock, which is energy sapping for runners and the climb to the summit is steep. Ankle preservation tends to be prioritised ahead of the views and falling in is unavoidable and part of the experience.

The weather was variable with high winds and mist, but at least no rain and was mild. The event was superbly marshalled and organised principally by Cornwall Search and Rescue who received the entry fee via a charity donation.
