TWENTY nine Tavistock Athletic Club athletes took part in Sunday’s iconic Tavy 7 race – probably the oldest running race in South West Devon.

Among those TAC runners at the event there were excellent performances all round .

Youngster Ed Smart was first home in 10th place overall, and there were a host of category prize winners: Allan Herdman, first male veteran 60; John Windemer, third, MV65; in the ladies, Sam Lake, who is just transferring to Tavistock Running Project, picked up first in the female veterans 35; Cathy Dunlop, first V50; Tracey Oxborough, first, V55; Maarit Green, third, V60.

However, the event was not just about the prize winners for the club – so many of the runners had come through the Couch 2 5k programme over the last 18 months and have continued to progress and enjoy their running and new found fitness.

Many of the runners not only completed the race but helped in the organisation too – making it a very successful day all round for the club.
