THE largest turn out of Tavistock Athletic Club members in the last couple of weeks was for Duckponds 7k multi-terrain run organised by Plymstock Road Runners.

This was race seven of the club's keenly contested Grand Prix series and nine club runners competed on a stiflingly hot Saturday evening.

Jason Shipton and Peter Bazley had a battle throughout the race to be first TAC home. Jason was the eventual winner, recording an excellent time of 30mins, 39seconds. Peter finished just seconds behind, winning his MV55 age group.

Paul Marshall ran well to be third club runner home in 33.23, while Graham De Val and Tony Shearer finished within seconds of each other in 35.22 and 35.25 respectively.

Christine Le Flem won her age category in a fast 36.44, followed by Trevor Williams in 38.01, Sue Rowe in 40.03 and Caron De Val not long behind them.

On the same day, U20 Alice Rogers competed in the St Ives Biathlon. This event involved a 2k run from St Ives to Carbis Bay and a swim back to the start.

In a field of 171 competitors, Alice was first lady to the finish, in ninth place overall – a superb result from this very promising young athlete.

Earlier in the same week, six club athletes, including two juniors, had raced in the fourth round of Armada Network's 5k races in the ground of Saltram House.

U17 William Dax was first TAC to the finish in tenth place overall in a superb time of 18.44. Graham De Val was next home, with U17 Jennifer Sabine seconds behind in 24.53.

This was Sue Rowe's debut race as a club member and she put in a fine performance to finish in 28.50, with Caron De Val (30.55) not far behind her.

Rachel Waldron was also competing for the first time as a member of the club, and she ran strongly to finish in 35.33.

The following Friday evening, Jo Meek was sole TAC at the five and a half-mile Chudleigh Carnival Road Race. As always, Jo had an excellent run, setting a new female course record by finishing in 34.18.

Rachel Waldron ran the six miles of Haytor Heller at Bovey Tracy the following day, competing in her second race for the club and finishing in 98.55.

Peter Bazley was among 350 competitors in the searing heat of The Magnificent Seven (miles) at Saltash. He ran well, finishing in 54.03.
