TAVISTOCK Athletic Club had a club away trip to Herefordshire, staying at Welsh Bicknor Youth Hostel and competing in the Forest of Dean Half Marathon.
Thirteen TACs ran the undulating 13.1mile route on forest tracks in warm sunshine. Four runners deserve special mention as all gained platinum awards for their age/time, with Andy Houghton gaining the highest percentile for his age. Peter Bazley, running his seventh 'half' this year, was first club member home, with David Twine a minute behind him. Trevor Williams put in his a strong performance to take a platinum award.
Kate Rogers was first club female to finish, gaining a gold award, while Graham De Val and Helen Alcock gained silver, Helen knocking 15 minutes off her previous time for the distance. This was Sue Rowe's first 'half' and she ran an excellent race, also gaining a silver award. Andrew Alcock ran a bronze time for his age, as did Paul Waldron. Claire and Adrian Pitcher, running together, also gained bronze.
Caron De Val brought the TAC contingent home, on this very happy weekend. Members thank Claire Pitcher for planning and organising the trip.
On the same day, many thousands of spectators turned out to support 9,000 runners in the Robin Hood full and half marathons.
This was Paul and Samantha Marshall's seventh trip to Nottingham to compete in what has become an annual Marshall-family race. Both had trained hard, and Paul's efforts were rewarded when he ran a course personal best time of 1hour 37 minutes, 27 seconds, gaining a platinum award for his excellent time. This was Samantha's first 'half' of the year, and she knocked five minutes off her 2012 time for the race, finishing in 2.04.10 and gaining a bronze award.
