TAVISTOCK Athletic Club had another strong turnout at the local Bere Pen 10k, orgainised by Bere Alston Trekkers on Saturday evening.
Thunderstorms had been threatened by the gurus at the Met Office, but they failed to materialise and the runners instead had to complete the course in hot, muggy conditions. The race is often known as ‘three (miles) down and three miles up’ – a very simplistic description that belies the scenery (including beautiful Weir Quay), a fast twisting downhill and a long sluggish climb back to the village via Clamoak.
Twenty Tavistock AC runners enjoyed the atmosphere – including one in fancy dress and jointly provided the catering with their neighbours, Bere Alston Trekkers. Martin Exley- Deane won his category, as did David Twine and Heather Fell was second lady overall.
Results: 11th Martin Exley-Deane (44.23, first veteran 55); 12, Heather Fell (44.33, second lady); 21, David Twine (46.32, first V60); 32, Pete Bazley (49.29); 33, Ian Collacott (49.29); 40, Natasha Farrington (50.52); 44, Andy Houghton (51.26); 49, Katherine Steer (51.54); 57, Nicole Heryet (53.11); 74, Anthony Shearer (56.38); 78, Andrew Martin (56.56); 94, Chris Jenkins (59.41); 126, Jason Shipton – unicorn (63.34); 137, John Windemer (66.58); 147, Sheila Houghton (68.29); 167, Dani James (70.53); 168, Sarah Prior (70.58); 169, Paula Smerdon (70.58); 185, Dene Medland (74.21); 767, Kellie Miller (78.09).
