THIS week has seen some of the fastest junior members of Tavistock Athletic Club travelling to Derbyshire to take part in the English Schools Cross Country Championship.
More than 2,500 young endurance athletes from around the country competed there in very muddy conditions.
Emily Attfield and Sian Temple both competed in the U15 junior girls event. Both put in excellent performances to finish within four seconds of each other - Emily in 39th place, in 11 minutes 55 seconds, with Sian in 50th place out of a field of 333. Tess Masselink and Amy Bennallick competed in the U15 intermediate girls race. Tess finished strongly in 59th place in 14mins 35secs, with Amy just over a minute later, again in another large field of 331.
Sam Lane De Courtin competed in the U-17 intermediate boys event and finished well within the top half of the 300-strong field in 21.37, while James Best ran in the U19 boys race and finished in 25.11 and 193rd position, again in a large field of athletes.
Five TAC juniors and one senior athlete competed in the final round of the Armada Athletics Winter 3k series in Central Park, Plymouth.
First club runner home, running a personal best time and finishing fifth in a fast 10mins 57secs was William Dax. Josh Blake finished seconds behind in seventh in 11.12. Harry Herdman produced another PB in 11.38, with MV60 Allan Herdman less than a minute behind in 12.35.
U13 Jude White and U15 Francesca Herdman both finishing strongly in times of 13.13 and 14.29 respectively.
