BOXERS Adrian Whiting, Charlie Hoskin and Darren Lynch went to Essex on Saturday to represent Tavistock Amateur Boxing Club in a Billericay and Wickford ABC’s promoted event.

This was the first time out for Charlie and although he was matched against a much taller opponent he stood his ground well but received too many undefended blows from range. The referee stopped the contest in the second round.

Darren fought at a slightly heavier weight and also found himself against a taller opponent. Showing a true aggressive spirit Darren took the fight to his opponent receiving punches as he went to attack, the longer range of his adversary was evident and Darren received two standing eight counts before the referee ended the contest early.

Aiden Whiting’s opponent was the experienced youngster Max Schultz and this turned into a keenly fought bout. Aiden was up against the slightly heavier southpaw and showed good attacking and defensive skills in a close contest. It ended with a narrow, majority win for Schultz. This was such a close match that a rematch was immediately sought and confirmed. The bout will take place on Saturday at Tavistock Town Hall, the Tavistock ABC event starts at 7.30pm.
