THE Under 16s from the Tamar and Tavy Gig Club were down at Newquay for the Junior Championships.  The whole event was conducted in sunshine, good conditions and in good spirit!

The team, supported by parents, Jo Cameron (vice-captain) and coxed by Bill Stacey-Norris (vice-captain), consisted of Tara Twine, George Masters, Rosie Lloyd, Charlie Fethney, Anya Anstey and Angus Hogg.

Expectations were modest but the team of 12 to 15 year old youngsters rowed some superb times.

In their initial heat they completed the course in 16.25 minutes putting them through to the quarter finals, which they rowed in 16.39 minutes.  In the semi-final they excelled themselves by achieving a time of 14.55 minutes!  Despite their 'Olympic' efforts it was not enough to get through to the finals.

However, this was one of the best results achieved by any squad in the club's history. Their efforts will no doubt provide inspiration to T and T's ladies and men rowers at their respective Newquay Championships, later on in September.
